It’s that time of year again! Vermont Association of Theatre and Theatre Artists (VATTA) announces its 21st annual statewide Professional Theatre Auditions & Interviews for Tech/Design/Management/ Directing/Choreography personnel. The ”VATTA’s” will be held on Saturday, March 6th from 9:30AM till 3PM at the McCarthy Arts Center, Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont. There will also be the annual gathering at the Theatre Town Meeting held after the auditions - exact time tba.

This annual event provides an excellent opportunity for talented and skilled theatre personnel of all ages to meet with, and/or audition for, 1520 representatives from Vermont’s theatre and film communities, video and commercial producers, talent agents, as well as other companies and “indie” directors offering salaried positions. Some groups also provide apprenticeships, and internships. The day includes periods of follow-up access with our Producers’ Circle, comprised of both Equity and non-Equity groups and indies. Also, Theatre artists hoping to expand experiences in the areas of design, directing/choreography, management, or have technical skills, will also have table time with Producers. There is a registration fee and materials must be submitted in advance.

AUDITIONING PERFORMERS

I. AUDITION FORMAT: Starting at 9:30AM, auditions for all ages. You present 2 contrasting monologues and a song (optional) in a three-minute slot. No piano available. An onstage sound assistant accommodates those with CD accompaniment. After you audition, feedback sheets will be available to you (optional) by which producers may ask you to drop by their table, etc. Even if you don’t get invited to a table, do still approach the producer --good networking!

INFO ON INDEX CARD -- Please use a standard size index card and PRINT legibly. Name, Address, Phones, E-mails. Also answer in this order: 1)Are you singing? 2)Are you union? 3)If not union, would you accept a non-salaried/apprentice position?

HEADSHOTS -- 20 b&w photo/resumes. (For extra $10 fee, we will make the copies for you.)

INTERVIEWS for Design, Technical, Management, Directing/Choreography

I. INTERVIEW FORMAT: There will be Producers’ Circle table times to talk about their needs and your talents/skills. We suggest you bring your portfolio and, perhaps, distribute design samples. Times tba.

PRODUCERS’ CIRCLE For Equity and non-Equity stage/film/video/commercial producers, indie directors, talent agents, and others who are offering paid positions. Some groups also provide apprenticeships, and internships as well. You’ll be provided a packet at the event of all talent and a table in the lobby with other producers. The day includes 2-3 periods of follow-up access

with you by theatre artists hoping to expand experiences in the areas of design, directing/choreography, management, or have technical skills.

SIGN UP ASAP!! Many of you are regulars and know the drill, but I’d like to make this a record year in numbers in our circle. NOW get your “Season Needs Blurb” emailed to me immediately. It includes: your group contact info; are you Union or Non-Union; names of your 2 reps at VATTA; very short description of your company or project; roles/positions you need filled; must include pay info. (If you’d like a sample blurb, contact us.) Follow this email up with putting your $25 check to VATTA in the mail to c/o Catalyst Theatre Co. PO Box 685, Essex Jct., VT 05453 (Yes, this is a new address.)

GENERAL INFO -FEES & DEADLINES:

*BE PREPARED! Our auditions are attended by Equity and non-Equity producers in a supportive atmosphere. In order to continue achieving positive and productive results for all involved, we recommend that newcomers to the audition/interview process, receive guidance and/or coaching. This includes guidance on building and formatting an effective theatrical resume. Contact us for info on coaching sessions.

*DEADLINES: Connect with us immediately with your interest or questions. 802-878-0718 <catalyst@gmavt.net> You may request we hold a time slot while your materials are en route. Late $10 fee should accompany submissions post-marked Feb. 25th on and for walk-ins. Walk-ins must have all the required materials in hand. We do all we can to get walk-ins seen, but we cannot make guarantees.

*REGISTRATION FEES: Auditions -$20 for VT resident/student; $30 for non-resident; Interviews -Design/Tech/Mgmt. - $15 for VT resident/student;

$25 for non-resident. Producers -$25 in advance, rather than on site, please.

Additional Fees - resume copying, late fees, walk-ins: $10 Copying Fee if you want us to make the 20 b&w copies for you; $10 Late Fee if postmarked Feb. 25th on and for Walk-Ins*. *Walk-ins must have all the required materials in hand. We do all we can to get walk-ins seen, but we cannot make guarantees.

*PAYMENTS: NOTE: E-MAIL is our primary method of confirmation and further communication. Please watch for these. Please send an email when you have sent your materials in the mail, so that we’re sure to watch for them.

*REFUNDS: Registration fee >includes< a nonrefundable $10 processing fee; Refunds if you cancel BEFORE February 25th - minus nonrefundable $10. No refunds from February 25th. In the case of unsafe travel or a need to cancel (never!), VATTA Producers’ Circle will still receive all your materials. You’ll also receive the Producer Circle Season contact roster that we give out at the event.

*UNABLE TO ATTEND? LET’s TALK: If you know in advance that you can’t attend the VATTAs, but still want to get your materials to the Producers’ Circle packets, you may do so by using the same FEE structure above. Same for Producers’ - you can still submit your fee and get your packet with all talent materials. Of course, your actual attendance is preferred.

THEATRE TOWN MEETING DAY! Each year, we gather after the VATTA’s and take the precious opportunity to network further and to meet in what has become known as “Theatre Town Meeting Day”. The exact time will be announced soon. This part of the day is open to EVERYONE, so please pass the word.
